Phase 1 – South Side: Slab Replacement
The project began with site stabilization and demolition of the existing concrete platform, stairs, trench angle, and outdated fencing. Guardrails were retained for reinstallation. A new 10″ slab-on-grade was poured with reinforced 15M rebar and prefabricated cages, ensuring structural continuity and a durable foundation.
Phase 2 – East Side: Tunnel Infill & Rail Preparation
Existing structures were removed and tunnels and depressions infilled using high-strength concrete. Tunnel sections were modified as needed, and grout beds were prepared to support future rail system installation.
Phase 3 – North Side: Shoring & Foundation Works
Deep excavation supported the installation of a reinforced shoring wall with tie-back supports. New looping pits and press foundations were formed, existing structures removed, and surrounding slabs reinforced with concrete, using prefabricated systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Phase 4 – Northwest Side: Press Foundation
The existing slab was removed and a new foundation for the flying cut-off press was constructed using prefabricated forms and reinforced concrete. Surrounding slabs were reinstated, and the site was cleaned and demobilized.
The outcome.
The project was delivered safely and efficiently across multiple site phases, with complex demolition, deep excavation, and structural concrete work completed in full alignment with engineering requirements. Strategic use of prefabricated reinforcement and forming systems minimized downtime and ensured consistent quality. The upgraded slabs, foundations, and structural elements now provide a durable, high-performance base to support future equipment installation and long-term operational demands.
